Nursing Home

The master plans I created for McBride Stephens, LLC's Independent and Memory Care living facility focused on providing a supportive and comfortable environment for residents at Smith Mountain Lake. After extensive research, I identified a 52.52-acre property with rolling fields, woods, and lake access. This location offers ample space for walking, gardening, and outdoor activities, all of which are crucial for the well-being of the residents. The site is strategically located near essential services like grocery stores and healthcare facilities, ensuring that residents can maintain independence while receiving necessary support. The property, priced at $725,000, includes 22 cleared acres and 30 wooded acres, providing both open spaces and privacy.

In addition to designing for the residents, I also plan on prioritizing the needs of the staff by incorporating technology such as smart beds, portable monitors, and centralized command centers. These tools will help alleviate the burden on caregivers as the workforce in assisted living facilities continues to decline. The facility will include 20 assisted living apartments, 10 memory care apartments, and amenities such as a gym with a hydrotherapy pool, outdoor walkways, and a greenhouse. These features promote physical activity, mental health, and social interaction, which are essential for the overall well-being of the residents.

The lounge spaces are designed to foster community activities and encourage resident interaction. The flexible arrangement of tables and chairs allows for easy adaptation to various events. The space features soft, calming colors paired with warm wood flooring, and includes computer stations to enhance functionality.

I wanted to create a unique living environment that embraces the timeless elegance of Japanese aesthetics through a thoughtfully crafted Japandi design style. This innovative approach provides our residents with the opportunity to immerse themselves in a harmonious blend of Japanese and Scandinavian influences, fostering a serene and culturally enriching atmosphere.
